This month is Autism awareness month. A month where the focus is on making others aware of Autism and celebrating the beautiful people we are surrounded with that are diagnosed with it.
It is an opportunity to discuss inclusivity and acceptance around ASD.
I have seen some amazing articles, and I have seen lots of posts on social media and I’m using this time as an opportunity to educate myself.
1 in 36 children are diagnosed with Autism and more boys than girls are diagnosed with ASD.
It doesn’t discriminate so it is found in all ethnic, racial and socioeconomic groups and most of us either know someone with Autism or have someone within our inner circle seeking a diagnosis.
Lenis doctor once said to me that everyone has ASD traits but that doesn’t mean that everyone has Autism and like ADHD there are various levels within the spectrum that someone can sit.
We have had some tough days with Leni and his ADHD but there are families out there that have had to manage days that have been more challenging than we will ever know.
To those families I say I hear you and I see you.
This month I am doing my bit to gain a better understanding of Autism and how I can help educate others and better support you and your child on their journey.
I hope this month makes you feel reassured that you are not invisible and that the importance of this month is not lost on me.
