In case you need to hear it, it’s ok to put yourself first.
As parents or carers we often come second to everything else going on in our lives.
We like to make sure the kids are fed, the house is clean, everyone has what they need and our work is done.
This way of existing is ok until it isn’t. Until you’re so exhausted mentally that you need to take a small break to recharge.
There is nothing wrong with taking some time out and I think as parents we have been guilted into thinking we shouldn’t need to but, if I’m totally honest with you all, I love it!
I know that I am a better parent when I do this and my family get the best version of me.
How can we be the best version of ourselves when we are tired?
I love being a mother, it is the best thing I have ever done and the thing I am most proud of but it has also been the hardest and occasionally I need to step away to be just me.
Don’t let anyone make you think you don’t deserve a break and don’t you dare feel guilty about it.
If it’s not something your use to doing schedule some time every week and make it about you and you only. Start small and work your way up from there. Grab a coffee and sit in the local park or by the water and just breathe.
Our children whether they are neurodivergent or not deserve the best version of us and that starts with you.
